Citizens of Assam, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Telangana and Uttarakhand are required to visit the Voter Portal by the Election Commission of India.

The following steps must be followed to apply for voter ID online.

  • You must begin by visiting the National Voters’ Service Portal
  • Register if you are a first-time user, or log in using your username, password and captcha code.
  • On the left panel of the homepage, select the ‘Register as a new electoral/voter’ button.
  • You will be redirected to a new window listing various forms for every action. Select For 6 to apply for voter ID.
  • Fill out the form completely and upload the required documents.
  • Click on the ‘Preview and Submit’ option once you are satisfied
  • Upon successful submission of the online application, you will receive an email on the registered email ID. The email will contain a link to the page that will allow you to track the status of your voter ID application.

Process of transition from an Old Voter’s ID Card to a New One

The Indian government has launched a new type of voter ID card, E-EPIC. This is an electronic form of a voter card available to the voters as a PDF. One can transition their old voter ID card to a new one by following the below-mentioned steps.

  • Login to the National Voters’ Service Portal (NVSP) using your username and password and enter the captcha code.
  • On the homepage, click on the ‘E-EPIC Download’ option
  • The newly displayed screen will ask you to enter your EPIC number or the form reference number. Once entered, select your State and proceed by clicking on the ‘Search’ button.
  • The next step will ask you to enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
  • Click on the ‘Download E-EPIC’ option to download the digital voter ID card successfully.

The applicant must go to the official website of their state’s Chief Electoral Officer or the nearest state election office. In order to do so, they must first search and see if their name is on the electoral roll, after which they can cross-check the information.
