Why Link Aadhaar with Your LPG Connection

There are a few clear reasons to get this done.

The subsidy reaches your bank account. Under PAHAL/DBTL, you pay market price for your cylinder and the eligible subsidy is credited directly to your linked bank account. Without the link, the subsidy remains tied to the connection instead of being paid out to you.

One household one connection. Aadhaar-based de-duplication helps block multiple or duplicate connections registered to the same household, which cuts down on diversion of subsidised gas.

Faster verified transactions. A linked and verified connection means subsidy credits and refills process cleanly. For Ujjwala beneficiaries in particular Aadhaar-based authentication confirms the genuine consumer.

One thing to sort out before you start: the name on your Aadhaar should match the name on your LPG connection. Even small differences like “Kumar” versus “Kr.” can get the request rejected. Correct any mismatch first.

What is DBTL (Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG)

DBTL stands for Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG also known as PAHAL (Pratyaksh Hanstantrit Labh). It is run by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas through the oil marketing companies and was rolled out nationwide on 1 January 2015. Under this scheme you buy your LPG cylinder at market price and the government transfers the subsidy amount directly to your bank account once the cylinder is delivered.

There are two ways to become PAHAL-compliant:

The Aadhaar route (primary): Your Aadhaar is linked to both your bank account and your LPG consumer ID and the subsidy is routed via Aadhaar.

The bank route (secondary): For those without Aadhaar you link your bank account directly to your 17-digit LPG consumer ID making it “Cash Transfer Compliant (CTC).”

Other features include a one-time permanent advance when you join online tracking for refills and credits and de-duplication to prevent multiple connections per household.

Step-by-Step: Link Aadhaar with Indane / HP Gas / Bharat Gas

Pick whichever method suits your situation. Provider-specific portals are all accessible via mylpg.in.

Online (All Three Providers)

1. Go to mylpg.in and select your provider Indane (IndianOil) HP Gas or Bharat Gas or visit the provider’s own website directly
2. Find the “Join DBTL” “Link Aadhaar” or Aadhaar Seeding (PAHAL) option
3. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number along with your consumer details as prompted
4. Verify with the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile or submit the request for your distributor to verify manually
5. Save the confirmation or reference number so you can track the request

By SMS

Send UID (your Aadhaar number) to your provider’s designated number. You’ll find this number on the provider’s website or on your refill cash memo.

By IVRS or Call Centre

Call your provider’s IVRS number (district-specific available on the website or your cash memo) or the DBTL helpline 1800-2333-555 and follow the prompts to link your Aadhaar.

Offline at the Distributor

Visit your LPG distributor with a self-attested copy of your Aadhaar your LPG consumer booklet (DGCC) and your bank details. Fill in the Aadhaar seeding form. Form 2 links Aadhaar to your LPG distributor record; Form 1 links Aadhaar to your bank account. The staff update your records from there.

A few provider notes: HP Gas lets you link with a single tap in its app. Bharat Gas has a reliable SMS service and lets you upload a scanned Aadhaar if OTP fails. Indane can be particular about consumer number format via IVRS so include any leading zero. Whichever route you use also make sure your bank account is separately linked to Aadhaar since that’s where the subsidy actually lands.

How to Check LPG Aadhaar Linking Status

Submitting a request doesn’t mean it’s done. Always verify:

1. Go to mylpg.in and select your provider
2. Choose “Check PAHAL (DBTL) Status” or “Give Feedback / Check Subsidy”
3. Enter your Consumer Number LPG ID Aadhaar number or registered mobile (options vary by provider)
4. The portal shows whether your Aadhaar and bank details are linked along with your recent subsidy transfer history

A successful link will show “Aadhaar Linked: Yes” under both the distributor and bank columns. You can also call the DBTL helpline (1800-2333-555) or your provider’s customer care line (Bharat Gas for example is at 1800-22-4344) to confirm.

What the LPG Subsidy Actually Amounts to Today

This is the part most people get confused about so it’s worth being clear.

Linking Aadhaar enables subsidy delivery but how much you receive depends on who you are.

For general domestic consumers who are not under Ujjwala the LPG subsidy has been negligible or effectively nil for the last several years. Market and subsidised prices converged so most regular households currently receive little to no credit in their account even with everything properly linked.

The meaningful targeted subsidy now flows to Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY/Ujjwala) beneficiaries. For FY 2025-26 the government has continued a targeted subsidy of ₹300 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to 9 refills per year for PMUY consumers (proportionately adjusted for 5 kg cylinders) credited directly to the Aadhaar-linked bank account. This was ₹200 from May 2022 and was raised to ₹300 in October 2023.

A few related points to know: the subsidised cylinder cap runs up to 12 cylinders per year. Households with annual income above ₹10 lakh are not eligible for the subsidy. Consumers can voluntarily give up their subsidy through the “Give It Up” option. So after linking a general consumer may see no credit at all while a PMUY beneficiary should see the ₹300-per-cylinder transfer in their account. That’s exactly why getting the Aadhaar and bank account linked correctly matters most for those who are actually entitled to it.
