IFSC stands for Indian Financial System Code, an 11-digit alphanumeric code that the Reserve Bank of India allots to every bank branch to provide a unique identity. This is used to facilitate online money transfers through NEFT, RTGS or IMPS. This code allows funds to be transferred easily by identifying the source and destination banks.

IDFC IFSC Code Structure

IFSC codes allotted to any IDFC branch are unique and are used to identify that particular branch. The first four characters of any IFSC code are used to identify the bank name. The 5th character of this code is a ‘control’ character, which is reserved for use in case the number of branches increases. The last six characters are used as an identifier for the bank branch and are unique for each code.

For instance, the IFSC code for IDFC Gurgaon Golf Course Extension Road Branch is IDFB0020132. The first four characters, ‘IDFB’, represent the bank’s name. The fifth character is ‘0’, which is the reserved character. The last six characters, ‘020132’, are a unique identifier for this particular branch of IDFC, which in this scenario is the Gurgaon Golf Course Extension Road Branch.
