Now the question is – how will you calculate the maturity amount?
Let us consider an example of the same.
Suppose an individual wants to open a PPF account and wants to invest in it for a period of 15 years. The current PPF interest rate for ICICI Bank is 7.1%. This individual wishes to invest ₹50,000 every year in the PPF. In such a case, the maturity amount at the end of the tenure would be:
A= P [({(1+i) ^n}-1)/i]
A = 50,000 *[({(1+0.071) ^15}-1)/0.071]
A = INR 13,56,070
Hence, upon maturity .i.e. After 15 years, this individual will get ₹13,56,070 and the total interest earned will be ₹89,898.
