He was the only son of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the 9th Sikh Guru. Gobind Singh's mother was Mata Gujri. He fought against the Mughal rulers trying to force the Sikhs to convert to Islam. He inspired the Sikhs to stand up against injustice and oppression and to follow the path of truth and righteousness.

On Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti, Sikhs gather at their local gurdwara (Sikh temple) to pray and listen to readings from the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhs.
