What is a Color Voter ID

The Indian Election Commission implemented coloured voter identification in 2015. These coloured voter identification cards will be sent to voters who have requested new IDs as well as corrections to their prior voter identification cards. At the registration centre in their city or district, citizens can pay an additional charge of Rs. 30 to switch from their outdated black and white voter card to a coloured one.

What is a PVC or Color Voter Card?

The updated version of the voter card is the PVC voter ID card. This card initially had a size similar to a bank card and was black and white in colour. The previous iteration of voter identification included a hologram sticker, a special serial number, and the official stamp of the issuing body.

The voter’s photo was difficult to recognise because of the monochrome print. To remedy this issue, the Indian Election Commission has made it possible to obtain an updated coloured EPIC, or colour voter ID.

Voters may also download e-EPIC cards from the EC in PDF format. By doing this, transporting paper copies of documents is no longer necessary. On their mobile device, they can easily download the voter cards in electronic form.

How to Get a Color Voter ID Card in India?

Step 1: Open the official voter’s portal.

Step 2: Now, fill in your credentials and login to your account on the voter’s portal. If you don’t have an account, sign up by filling in all the necessary details.

Step 3:  Once you are logged in, you need to select the link specifying the registration of a new PVC Voter ID card.

Step 4: Fill in all your details, including the contact number.

Step 5: Now, you will be asked to upload your current photograph in color.

Step 6: Now, select the ‘Submit’ option.

Step 7: Once you have submitted your details, you will receive an authentication code on your registered contact number.

Step 8: Fill in the code, and you will get an identity code for your respective voter card.

Step 9: Once the process is complete, you will keep receiving updates on your registered contact number by SMS.

Step 10: The PVC colored voter card will be delivered to your doorstep within 40-60 days.  

Who Is Eligible to Apply for Coloured Voter ID Cards?

The eligibility requirement to apply for the colored voter ID cards is that one has to be of at least 18 years of age, and if their name appears on voter lists, they are eligible to use this colour voter ID during general elections. 

Also, for approaching elections in various Indian states, the government recently approved the use of electronic voter registration cards.

Step 1: Open the official website of the NVSP.

Step 2: Login to your account by filling in the details and captcha.

Step 3: Once you log in to your account, select the option of ‘E-EPIC Download’.

Step 4: Now, you need to enter your contact number after logging in and a one-time password (OTP) will be delivered to your contact number. 

Step 5: Once you fill in the OTP, you can download your colored voter ID card online.

Step 1: Visit the official Voter’s website.

Step 2: Fill in all your necessary details and login to your voter’s account.

Step 3: Once you have logged in, select the ‘Track your application status’

Step 4: Now, fill in the details like ‘reference number’ and your ‘state’.

Step 5: Once you have verified your details, you can now see the number of your voter ID card and an E-Seva centre number, by which you can now see exactly where your application stands.
